| Equine Assisted Activities and Learning |
|
| Equine Assisted Activities and Learning (EAL) is an emerging field where individuals and groups interact with horses in visual, experiential ground based activities as a means to strengthen and/or improve life skills. |
| |
Equine Assisted Learning
and Growth (EAG) is a widely used valuable, interactive,
hands-on approach to learning that involves motivating, goal-oriented
activities with horses. The focus of EAG
is activities involving the participant(s) and the horse which
will be utilized as metaphors to build, strengthen, and improve
life skills as well as self-growth.
The focus of EAL and EAG is not about riding
and horsemanship! It's merely stepping into a new and fun approach
to learning and improvement. It's deciding to take the
first step to being open to change and perhaps a new or slightly
different trail! Or perhaps it's just choosing to come on out
'n' see what our equine counselors can teach us about ourselves
and one another.
Horses are very much like humans in that they are social animals.
They have defined roles within their herds. They would rather
be with their peers. An approach that seems to work with
one horse does not necessarily work with another. At times,
they seem stubborn and defiant. The fact that horses exhibit
personalities, attitudes and moods as unique as any persons
provides endless experiences and situations for discussion and
learning.
Equine Assisted programs can be tailored to meet the specific
needs and goals of the participants.

| Examples of activities: |
- A single parent family works together to get the horse
to walk backwards to learn problem solving skills and communication
skills.
- A youth group builds an obstacle course to lead their
horses through to develop decision-making and goal-setting
skills.
- Siblings play "equine basketball" where they
learn about working together and sibling rivalry!
|
| |
| Why EAL? |
- On average, most people learn and have more fun when they are involved visually and can have hands on
- The adventure is so positive that you don't feel as if
you are there to learn something! It's that much FUN!
|
| |
| Why EAG? |
- Tired of traditional learning, structured self-help classes and family sessions? Why not break out of the routine and try the adventurous?!
- There's something about the spirit of a horse! There are
divine moments when people and horses come together in a
natural country atmosphere when things just seem to happen.
Authentic, intentional, heart-warming, remarkable happenings
you just have to experience!
- Relationships can always be improved. With the fast changing times we live in today it can be easy to mistake routine for satisfaction. Life skills can always be improved. Investing time and attention in one's family, work place, church family, small group, etc. can reap mighty benefits.
